SolarCompare is a public catalogue and quote-request service for solar projects in Cyprus. There is no account. We receive personal data only when you submit a project request or contact us directly.
The site is published under the name SolarCompare and is operated from Cyprus. Whoever runs it decides what happens with the data described here, which under the GDPR makes them the controller.
For anything about personal data — a question, a request, a complaint — write to support@solarcompare.cy.
What is collected
The language cookie
One cookie, solarcompare_locale, remembers which of the three languages you are reading in. It stores a language code and nothing else: no identifier, no history, no profile. Without it every page would open in English again. It is set because the site cannot offer a chosen language without it.
Server logs
The hosting keeps ordinary web server logs: IP address, browser and operating system, the address requested, the time of the request. They exist so that failures and abuse can be seen. They are not used to build a profile of anyone and are not combined with anything else. The basis is our legitimate interest in running the site securely.
Emails you send us
If you write to us, we see your address and whatever you put in the message, and we keep the correspondence while the matter is open. The basis is our legitimate interest in answering you.
Project requests
When you press “Request quotes”, we store the property address, project answers, electricity figures, name, email, optional phone number and preferred contact method. Draft answers stay in session storage in your browser until then. We process the request to provide the comparison you asked for, and record the version and time of your agreement to share it.
Usage statistics
We count how the catalogue is used: which pages are opened, and when someone presses a company phone number, email address or website link. An event carries the page address without its parameters, the interface language and which company it was — never the text you typed into search. The counter stores nothing on your device: no cookie, no identifier, and one event is not tied to another or to you. It runs on PostHog, on servers in the European Union, and only on our instructions. The basis is our legitimate interest in knowing how much use the catalogue is and how many enquiries it brings companies.
What is not collected
- There are no accounts, no registration and no login.
- Search filters and unfinished project drafts are not added to a personal profile. Contact details and the property address are never placed in the page URL.
- There is no advertising, no tracking pixels and no social network buttons, and the counter described above does not follow you across other sites. Fonts are served from this domain, so reading a page tells no third party that you were here.
- Personal data is not sold or rented. A submitted project is shared only with up to three suitable installers for the purpose stated beside the submit button. Nobody pays for a position in the catalogue.
When you contact an installer
Pressing an email or phone link on a company profile opens your own mail app or dialler. The message goes from you straight to the company: it does not pass through our server, we do not see it and we do not store it. What you agree with the company afterwards is between you and them.
Company details in the catalogue
The catalogue holds business contact details of installers, taken from the RESECFUND registry and other public sources. Some of them belong to sole traders, which makes them personal data. They are published so that a company can be found and checked against the official registry; the basis is our legitimate interest in that transparency.
If your company is listed and an entry is wrong or you object to it being published, write to us and say which entry you mean.
Who else sees the data
The site runs on hosting inside the European Economic Area. The hosting provider processes data only on our instructions and for no purpose of its own.
The usage counter is provided by PostHog on servers in the European Union. It processes the events described above on our instructions and for no purpose of its own.
After you submit a project request, up to three suitable installers may receive the project and contact details so they can respond. They then act as separate controllers for their own communication and must use the details only for that request.
Nothing is transferred outside the European Economic Area. Apart from the installers you asked us to contact, personal data is given to no one else unless the law obliges us.
How long it is kept
- Server logs are deleted after 30 days.
- Usage events are deleted after 12 months.
- The language cookie is stored in your browser, and you can delete it at any time in the browser settings.
- Email correspondence is kept while the matter is open and for up to a year after it is closed.
- Project requests are deleted or anonymised after 24 months unless an open request or legal duty requires longer.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal data about you we hold and give you a copy of it;
- correct data that is wrong or incomplete;
- delete data we no longer have a reason to keep;
- stop using data while a dispute about it is settled;
- stop processing that rests on our legitimate interest;
- hand over data you gave us in a machine-readable form.
Write to the address above. We answer within one month. We may ask you to confirm who you are, and only where we actually hold data about you.
If you think your data is handled wrongly, you can complain to the Cyprus supervisory authority.
Office of the Commissioner for Personal Data ProtectionChildren
The site is not addressed to children and no data about them is knowingly collected.
